Choristers
The Cathedral Choristers form the top line of the Cathedral Choir and are educated at the Cathedral School within the Close. Choristerships are worth between 50% and 60% of the school fees, depending on length of service in the Choir. It is a marvellous discipline to learn at an early age and they enjoy many extras such as tours, broadcasts, and recordings.
 An annual audition is held every year in late January/early February for boys aged between 6 and 9 to join the Cathedral Choristers. However we also hear candidates throughout the year on an ad hoc basis so there is no need to wait until the audition to get in touch - there may be space available in between times! There are also Open Days held on which prospective choristers are able to come and visit Lichfield and learn more about the opportunities available - details will be available from the school.
At the audition, we ask the candidate to bring along a prepared piece (such as a hymn, simple anthem or song) and we also give them some aural tests, which include singing individual notes as well as two and three note chords and some questions on basic music theory.
 Academic tests for the School include papers in Maths and English and a verbal reasoning paper that needs no preparation. For full details please contact the Cathedral School at

Choral Scholars
Auditions for this post (one each of Countertenor, Tenor and Bass) take place in February each year and are open to gap-year students, undergraduates and post-graduates. The post is for one year, though extensions are given in special circumstances at the discretion of the Organist. The audition process includes an interview with the Organist, which includes singing a prepared aria and some aural tests, and interviews with the Precentor and Headmaster.
The remuneration is £1,300p.a. plus free accommodation and free singing lessons for the year.
